DIETARY PROTOCOL

Food as Medicine

Nothing on this plate is random. Every food is here because it contributes to angiogenesis, wound healing, vasodilation, or supplement absorption. This isn't a diet — it's a delivery system.

Core Principles

Fat is a delivery vehicle, not an enemy

Four supplements in this stack — turmeric, D3, K2, and fish oil — are fat-soluble. They require dietary fat to be absorbed through the intestinal wall. The bacon breakfast isn't just protein; it's the delivery mechanism for the most important anti-inflammatory and repair compounds in the protocol. Skip the fat, cut the absorption.

Blood flow is the whole game

Every food choice in this protocol either improves blood flow or avoids impairing it. Beetroot, arginine (pistachios), nitric oxide preservation (Vitamin C), vasodilation (magnesium, potassium, coconut water) — it's a multi-pronged attack on the fundamental problem: the ankle wound isn't getting enough blood, oxygen, or nutrients. Food is part of the vascular strategy.

Gut integrity drives systemic healing

Fermented foods (Bubbies, Kevita) and probiotic sources maintain the gut barrier. When the gut wall is compromised, bacterial fragments (LPS) leak into the bloodstream and trigger systemic inflammation — the same inflammation that prevents wound healing. Healing the gut is part of healing the ankle.

What's on the plate and why

Bacon & eggsDaily base

Protein scaffold for tissue repair. Every cell being rebuilt at the ankle requires amino acids — eggs provide a complete amino acid profile. Bacon provides the dietary fat required to absorb turmeric, D3, K2, fish oil, and ashwagandha. Without fat at breakfast, those supplements largely don't absorb.

Black pepper on everythingDaily base

Piperine — the active compound in black pepper — inhibits the liver enzyme (CYP3A4) that rapidly clears curcumin from the bloodstream. Without piperine, curcumin has a half-life of minutes. With it, absorption increases by up to 2000%. This costs nothing and requires zero extra effort.

Red seedless grapesDaily

Resveratrol — the polyphenol in grape skins — activates sirtuins, the same longevity proteins that NAD+ fuels. Resveratrol and NMN are synergistic: NMN raises NAD+, resveratrol tells the cell to use it for repair. Also provides anthocyanins that strengthen vascular walls — directly relevant to DVT and fragile capillaries.

AvocadoRegular

High monounsaturated fat — extends the fat window for supplement absorption. Also provides potassium (more than bananas, per gram), B vitamins, and glutathione precursors. Glutathione is the body's master antioxidant and is depleted by chronic inflammation and oxidative stress from poor circulation.

PistachiosRegular

High in L-arginine, the amino acid precursor to nitric oxide. Dietary nitric oxide from beetroot + arginine from pistachios = dual-pathway vasodilation. Also provides protein, healthy fat, and resveratrol (yes, also in pistachio skins). One of the most nutrient-dense nuts for cardiovascular support.

PineappleWhen available

Bromelain — a proteolytic enzyme found in pineapple — reduces inflammation and aids protein digestion. Bromelain has direct anti-edema properties and has been studied for use in wound healing and post-surgical recovery. Fresh pineapple only — canned destroys bromelain through heat processing.

Coconut water (organic)Daily

Natural electrolyte replenishment — potassium, magnesium, sodium in bioavailable form. With DVT causing venous congestion and the heat of Arizona, electrolyte balance affects blood viscosity. Thick blood flows poorly. Proper hydration and electrolytes keep blood fluid.

Fermented dill pickles (Bubbies)Regular

Live probiotic cultures — gut health directly impacts systemic inflammation. A compromised gut barrier (leaky gut) drives inflammatory cytokines that impair wound healing. Fermented foods maintain the gut lining integrity. Bubbies specifically is genuinely lacto-fermented, not just vinegar-brined.

Kombucha (Kevita, pineapple peach)Occasional

Live probiotic cultures alongside organic acids (acetic, gluconic) that support liver detoxification. The gut-liver-inflammation axis matters here: a healthy gut microbiome reduces the systemic inflammatory load that impairs healing.

What's been removed and why

✕ Ibuprofen, naproxen, acetaminophen
NSAIDs blunt prostaglandin signaling — the same early-phase inflammatory signal that BPC-157 and TB-500 depend on to initiate tissue repair. Chronically suppressing inflammation with NSAIDs while trying to drive healing is contradictory. Aspirin stays: it works differently (platelet aggregation) and is required for DVT.
✕ Antibacterial mouthwash
Kills oral bacteria that convert dietary nitrate (from beetroot) to nitrite — the first step in producing nitric oxide. Eliminating oral bacteria eliminates most of the vasodilation benefit from beetroot. Regular toothpaste is fine.
✕ High-sugar processed foods
Glucose spikes trigger inflammatory cascades and glycation of proteins, including collagen. A wound that needs to build clean collagen matrix doesn't benefit from glycated building blocks.
